Francis Joseph Spillman Jr. (Jody)
June 14, 1963 ~ September 15, 2016 Francis Joseph Spillman Jr. (Jody) was born on June 14, 1963 in Dallas, Texas, son of Francis Joseph and Norma Jean (Halsey) Spillman Sr. He passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016, in his sleep at home of a suspected heart attack at the age of 53 following a long battle with a severe back injury and the complications that followed.
Jody was born and raised in the Dallas area. After graduating from Plano Senior High, he attended the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Austin and Stephen F. Austin State University. On August 28, 1992, he was united in marriage to Lisa Kay Proctor, in Viti Levu, Fiji. He enjoyed swimming, cooking, movies, birding, collecting coins, astronomy, and, most of all, he adored his two beautiful sons. Jody owned several businesses during his lifetime, including IMC Vending and Patrick Alarm Services.
From early childhood, Jody always demonstrated compassion, generosity and a desire for self-improvement and self-sacrifice. In spite of immense obstacles, he was determined to graduate from high school. He was the only child in his family to do so. His maternal grandmother,
Emmaline May Bassford, had a tremendous influence on his life and the formation of his character. Jody spent every summer of his childhood on Mikey’s family farm in Anthony, Kansas. He loved bringing Lisa and the boys to visit until Grandma Mikey’s passing in 2008.
Jody’s back injury caused him great pain, which intensified in his final years. In spite of his condition, he would find daily ways to demonstrate his deep love for his family and friends and contribute in whatever way he could. As a life-long resident of the Dallas area, Jody had many dear friends with whom he remained close over the years. The stories they share help Jody’s children to come to more fully understand the joyful, energetic and, at times, impish man his father was before his injury.

Karen Ann "Mac" Louda
December 12, 1946 - September 15, 2016 Karen Ann “Mac” Louda was born December 12, 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to parents Paul and Erma Grill. In 1963 she met and fell in love with Dave Louda; after he returned from active duty in the U. S. Navy, they married in 1968 at St. Sylvester Church in Brentwood, Pennsylvania. Dave went to work for Dentsply International and in 1971 they were transferred to Southern California where Karen gave birth to their daughter Shannon in July of 1972. A promotion took them to Plano, Texas in 1983 where they have resided ever since.
As all who knew her will attest, Karen was indeed the consummate “GIVER” who always put others ahead of herself. Her huge number of friends is certainly testament to that. Her incredible smile lit up a room in an instant and put all around her at ease and conveyed a feeling to them that they just wanted to get to know her and become part of her life. What a blessing! To say that she will be missed is probably the understatement of all time. The lyrics of the song that Dave chose for her was “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars, really says everything. Her credo has always been, “Faith, Family and Friends”…….she certainly got it right. A light has gone out in Texas but a new star shines bright in the heavens.
Karen is survived by her husband Dave Louda, daughter and son-in-law Shannon and Phil Stewart, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Scott Louda and his wife Sheila, Jeff Louda.

Marian was active in Texas philanthropy and enjoyed volunteering at many events. She also had a broad range of interests and pursued her interests with lifelong learning, attending lectures and seminars on every imaginable topic.

Laura Mary Bennett
May 22, 1915 – September 1, 2016 Laura Mary Bennett went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2016, completing a remarkable journey of 101 years marked by faith, abounding love, and service. Born in Elgin, Minnesota on May 20, 1915 to John and Anna Hoberer, she was the third of five children. Her father John and his brother rode the Orphan Train from Boston to Minnesota in 1884. Laura’s mother, a native of North Dakota, spoke both German and English. The young family returned to North Texas when Laura was an infant.
At St. Peter’s Catholic School in Lindsey, Laura learned both German and English. After high school she moved to Wichita Falls, where she worked as a nanny for a family with young children. Having learned to bake bread by age nine, in this new endeavor she honed her culinary skills and learned to plan lovely menus for the family. While in Wichita Falls, she also worked at the hospital and telephone company before moving to Dallas.
In 1951 Laura met Samuel Raymond Bennett at Jay’s Marine Grill where they both worked, Sam as a chef, and Laura as a server. She often spoke of the time she worked at the Flight Deck at Love Field, where she served many notable individuals, including John Wayne, George H. Bush, and Alexander Haig. They later opened a small restaurant of their own, Bennett’s Café on Cedar Springs. Until her retirement, she worked hard while serving others.
While Laura and Sam had no children of their own, they grew very close to all of their nieces and nephews. Aunt Laura unconditionally loved all of them, along with their children and grandchildren, as if they were her own children, and each of them adored her and remained close to her throughout her life. She also remembered all of their birthdays and anniversaries.
Her family benefited from her remarkable cooking and meal-planning skills, including unique home-made birthday cakes. Beginning in the 1960’s, Laura derived great joy in winning many blue ribbons at the State Fair of Texas for her bread, strudel, cinnamon rolls, chili, and original recipes. She and her younger sister Gladys entered the contests together, often in friendly competition with one another.
A member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Dallas and St. Matthew’s in Arlington, she was a woman of faith who reminded her loved ones that she prayed for them individually and often. During her last years, she participated in services provided by St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Plano. Laura extended her love and positive outlook to everyone she met.
While living in Arlington, Laura became an avid Texas Rangers Baseball fan, remembering the schedule and knowing the players until the end of her life. In fact, she spent her 90
th, 95
th, 100
th, and 101
st birthdays at the Ballpark, and never missed a game on television if she could help it.
The last eleven years she lived independently in her cozy apartment at Evergreen at Plano, where she made wonderful new friends and enjoyed table games, especially 42; her friends nicknamed her “eagle eye” because she played the games so well, despite not seeing at all in one eye.
Aunt Laura was the last survivor of her generation in her family, preceded in death by her brothers, John and Richard, her sisters Gladys and Bertha, and husband Sam. She is survived by Sam’s children and a host of nieces and nephews who traveled across the country to care for her in her short, final illness and to say farewell to one they loved so much.

Edward W. Duda, Sr.
June 2, 1917-July 26, 2016 Life of a Good Man Edward W. Duda, Sr. was born June 2, 1917 to Katherin Kersich and Anthony Duda. His father emigrated from Austria and settled in Chester, PA. They had 4 boys and 1 girl and raised their children to respect others and to love this country which gave them the opportunity for freedom and prosperity
.
My father attended school until the 10th grade, dropping out, as the oldest, to help support the family during the hard times. He attended vocational schools to learn various trades in the attempt to better his station in life.
When World War II broke out, he gained employment as an arc welder building liberty ships in Delaware, PA. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943, and because of his propensity for math and mechanics, he was given a posting in England to maintain and repair fighter planes. He was too tall for flight school. He was honorably discharged in 1946, came home, married Edith I. Cresucci, and had two sons. One, Edmond, died shortly after birth, and because of an infection Edith could have no additional children.
Ed worked at the welding trade until he took a job with Sinclair Oil Refinery, running a cracking unit which refined oil into all by products. He retired at 62-1/2 and did nothing else.
At this point, how is this a good man? He loved his family and stayed with the same woman for 63 years. He raised his son to respect others. He never cheated or stole, never bought anything he couldn’t pay for, worked hard, save his earnings, and had the integrity to admit his mistakes and correct any wrongs done to others. Also, he gave generously to family and friends, and to those in need, without the desire for thanks.
His love for this country and the respect for its flag was paramount in his thoughts. While he lived with Carol and I, his question to us was: How is it that the sacrifice he and his Brother’s in Arm’s made during the war (The Greatest Generation), has produced a country whose moral fiber, and love of country, has diminished so aggressively, and that the ethics of life, liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, has given way to “give me everything” without doing the work to earn it.
I loved my father for the way he lived his life and for the lessons he taught me on how to Live a Good Life and to love God.
Ed Duda, Jr.
The funeral for Eward Duda, Sr. will be held at Seton on Friday, August 5, 2016, at 10:30am in the church. Interment will follow in the Seton Columbarium. Fr. Bradley will preside.
Joseph Progler
April 24, 1930 - July 23, 2016 Joseph Progler was born on April 24, 1930 in New York City. He grew up in The Bronx, attended Stuyvesant High School, and graduated from City College of New York in 1951 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Joseph joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952, attained the rank of sergeant, and after proudly serving his country received an honorable discharge in 1954. Joseph returned to New York City where he continued to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1960.
In 1956, after working for a short time in sales and as a police officer, Joseph began his career as a New York City firefighter, rising through the ranks and retiring as a Battalion Chief in 1993. But it was during his days as a police officer that Joseph met the love of his life, Dolores Cerrone. Dolores and Joseph were married in 1958, and spent 58 years by each other’s side. They started a family, having two sons Joseph and Christopher, and lived in various locations in upstate New York. In 2003, Joseph and Dolores moved to Plano, Texas, to be closer to their son and grandsons. While Joseph enjoyed living in Texas, he always kept a little bit of New Yorker in him and kept a bond with his career as a New York City firefighter.
Having had a difficult upbringing himself, which included helping to raise his younger sister Ann, Joseph strove to be a very dedicated and honorable man when it came to his own family, and he made caring for them his top priority. Among Joseph’s favorite pastimes was finance, and he enjoyed studying the stock market and following the trends of investments rising and falling. He often consulted with his wife Dolores about what could and should be done in the market and he was an avid reader of financial magazines and investing publications. Gifted with a wonderful sense of humor, Joseph was thought of very fondly by all those who knew him, and as he aged he especially endeared himself to all who came in contact with him.
Joseph Progler passed away at home in Plano on July 23, 2016. He will be missed by his wife Dolores and two sons, Joseph and Christopher. He also leaves behind two grandsons, Christopher and Zachary, as well as a sister, Ann.
There will be a funeral Mass held at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano on July 28, 2016, at 11:00am. The burial will take place at 1:15pm on Monday, August 1st at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

His hobbies and interests were astronomy, aikido, playing chess, playing the guitar and classic sports cars. He was a family man who loved spending time at home with his wife and children. He was known for being generous, who always took the time to listen and help others. He considered his brother, Lin Jr, to be his best friend and was close to his coworkers who supported and encouraged him during his battle with cancer.
His brave struggle against cancer showed his courageous and noble nature. He grew closer to God during his ordeal and is an inspiring example to his family. He lived the Golden Rule.
His life will be celebrated with the funeral mass on Saturday, July 16, at 2:00pm. Fr. Bradley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Seton Columbarium.

Susano “Chano” Acosta
Susano (Chano) was born on the 28 of April 1930 in Clarkdale, Arizona. He spent his childhood in Cottonwood, Arizona, until he graduated High School. In 1948 at the age of 18 he joined the United States Air Force. After several years in Japan, he was stationed in Madrid Spain where he met Alicia Garcia, the love of his life and once married he would always introduce her as “my beautiful wife, Alicia”. They began what would turn into 61 years of love, happiness and adventure. The couple welcomed 6 children and dedicated their lives towards raising them in the Catholic faith. He spent 20 years serving his country, obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and retired from the military as a Master Sergeant. The next 21 years were spent at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas before retiring for good in 1991.
They eventually moved to Plano, Texas where they spent the rest of their days together. He spent time taking care of his health as much as he could which would often involve walking 3-5 miles a day and meeting up for coffee at a local mall with his friends or exercising at the Plano Senior Center. He also volunteered at Mi Casita and Meals on Wheels. Through the years that followed they welcomed in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His children remember him as a loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. As a gentleman; a spiritual man who was full of gratitude; a husband who adored his wife. He was a patient and compassionate man who was an excellent listener, loved people, nature, was always whistling or singing, enjoyed a good meal, and found value in the simple things in life.
Susano battled with Alzheimer’s for over 10 years and not once did he complain. He was the perfect example of a gentleman even as his health declined and his quality of life diminished. His faith in the Lord provided him comfort and gave him the courage to endure the debilitations that would keep him bed ridden and on Hospice care at home for 4 years. In the end, he took one last breath and fell into eternal peace while being surrounded by his family on June 16, 2016 at the age of 86.
He is survived by his wife Alicia Acosta and sister Celia (Sally) McCullough. He is also survived by his children, Susana Acosta-Cavert, Rod Acosta, Elizabeth Acosta, Tony Acosta, Elena Walsh and Alicia Acosta. He was a proud grandfather to Alicia Cahill, Cristina Olleros, Monica Mancuso, Matthew Acosta, Lucas Acosta, Diego Acosta, Reni Acosta, Marco Acosta, Natalie Walsh and Alexandra Walsh. He was also fortunate enough to welcome three great-grandchildren into this world, Simona Mancuso, Marlin Mancuso and Sebastian Cahill.

William Nicolas
October 5, 1958 ~ May 2016 William was born in Kafar Aka on 5 October in Al-Koura, North Lebanon in 1958. He came from an established/distinguished family with a tradition of self-improvement through education and learning. His father Spiridon was Greek Orthodox, his mother Salwa a Maronite Christian. The family owned extensive land in the Koura area including many acres of olive trees, which William inherited. William left Lebanon in 1975 in a time of war to complete his schooling in the United States of America and to then pursue his higher education there. He went to school at George Washington University in Washington DC. William chose electrical engineering because he had always excelled in the sciences at school and this appeared to offer a clear route forward into a professional career.
It was becoming increasingly evident that the Civil War in Lebanon would be long and devastating, so the only route forward for the future would lie in the USA. William accepted a job with MCI, Microwave Communications Incorporated, the owner of all the technical know-how and IP in long-distance telecommunications. William was proud to be an MCI employee. Initially, he was based in the D.C. area but in 1986 was transferred to MCI’s R&D operations in Richardson, Texas. After two years, he was relocated back to D.C. However, he enjoyed his stint in Texas so much that in 1989 William requested to be transferred back to Texas.
William never forgot his roots. Indeed, in many ways he was as Lebanese as he was American. He loved Lebanese literature and poetry, and he followed Lebanese and Arab politics and affairs very closely. Whenever he could, he would travel back to Lebanon where he would spend most of his time with friends and family. In October 1991, William married Salwa Harb, from Tannourine in Lebanon. In 1994, their first son Spiro was born and their second son Andrew in 1998. Both have enjoyed a rich a multicultural life, acquiring knowledge of Arabic at home while leading all-American lives with their friends, at school and university.
William was moving up the career ladder within MCI where his technical interests lay in long distance fibre-optic communications. In 1998, William won the HERO award in recognition for his multiple inventions, dedications and leadership. Unfortunately, a few years after that, William was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a debilitating illness affecting the intestinal tract. His quality of life became increasingly compromised and in the last few years he was often confined to bed for lengthy periods of time. In some ways, he has been blessed by an early release from his earthly shackles, and has gone early to meet his heavenly Father.
His influence on his family is deep and will be long lasting. He always stood for probity and fairness with friends, family and public dealings. We all miss him dearly. William is survived by his loving wife Salwa, sons Spiro and Andrew Nicolas, siblings Hadia Nicolas, Georges Nicolas (Maureen O’Day), Samira Aballah (Nesrallah) and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Nicolas.

Alfred (Al) James Nappo
April 30, 1938 -- April 28, 2016 Al was born in Chicago, IL and passed away peacefully in Plano, TX two days before his 78th birthday. The previous weekend he was blessed to see and talk with his five children and two brothers, all of whom but one had come from other states to bid farewell to their beloved father and brother. Al was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Cheryl (Cheri) who was his best friend for 38 years.
Al is survived by Cheri and his five children: Meri Jo Hunter (Mark); Theresa Anderson; Julia Soto (Steve Bonney); Alfred Nappo (Stacy); and Steven Nappo (Ayaka). He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Meaghan, Brandon, Shelby, Austin, Tiana, Max, Jake and Jocelyn; and three great-grandchildren: Jadyn, Jack and Zayla. Also surviving are his brothers Carmen (Joan) and Dan (Dana) plus four nieces and numerous wonderful and caring friends. Al was preceded in death by Alma, his first wife and mother of his four oldest children; his mother, Delores Kuz; his father, Carmen Nappo; his stepfather, Steve Kuz; and his brother, David Kuz.
After serving in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic, Al settled in Southern California where he worked at Rohr Inc. in Chula Vista. Later he became part owner of a TBA business honing his sales acumen up and down cities in Southern California.
Later after his wife, Alma, passed away, Al met and married Cheryl (Cheri) Froehle, who assisted him in raising his four children. Due to a job opportunity, he moved his family to Tucson, AZ, where his fifth child was born. He managed a chain of gas stations for a while and later an auto parts store. The next move came after eleven years in Tucson when Al, Cheri, Alfred and Steven moved to Plano, TX with their dog and two cats. He was hired as a sales manager for an after-market auto store. In the following sixteen years he held more sales management positions before retiring.
Al lived a full life and greatly influenced all those he met. One of his greatest gifts from God was his beautiful tenor voice. He sang with an opera company in Europe and an amateur theatrical company in Tucson where he was Andrew in a Simon Peter production. He was a Cantor in two of his parish churches, sang in church choirs, and was a member of the Plano Civic Chorus for six years.
While in California Al became involved with Christian Businessmen’s Committee which helped him in his desire to learn more about God and his faith. In Tucson he began working at the County Jail scheduling men and priests to visit the inmates. He made a request to the Bishop that he be allowed to be the first lay Chaplain there and was commissioned to do so. After moving to Plano, the family first attended St. Mark the Evangelist Church where he and Cheri volunteered to mentor engaged couples in a Parish Centered Marriage Preparation Program and were part of the choir. A few years later Cheri and Al became members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton where he once again became involved in the parish, not only singing in the choir and an octet, but also becoming a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. Perhaps his greatest love was working with the men of the parish. He started the Men’s Breakfast Group on Saturday mornings and led the group for a number of years. He also attended numerous other Bible Studies as a participant. Over the years Al has helped bring many men to Christ through his own faith and love of God.
Al Nappo will be greatly missed not just by his family but also by the many people he came in contact with over the years. He always said “I love you” are the most powerful words that can be said to one another. He said “I love you” to everyone who visited him during the two weeks he was in the hospital. Following is one of Al’s favorite Bible verses: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Al’s life will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service and Rosary; and again on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm with a Mass of the Resurrection, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Both will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, TX 75023.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Al’s honor to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton or a charity of your choice.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Ed graduated with an Aeronautical Engineering degree from NYU while serving during WWII in the Army Air Corps as a flight engineer. After the service he worked for Chance Vought Aircraft and spent his entire 37 year career with the company. He loved to tell the story of how he first started at a drafting table at the back of a huge room of engineers and his goal was to be the guy who worked from the table at the front of the room.
Over his career he progressed to the VP of Manufacturing for all Aerospace products and then became the Senior VP of Operations & Program Management. LTV (the parent company of Vought) created a separate Aero Products Division in 1983 and Ed was named President. Ed married Virginia Pierce in 1957. Through Virginia's vision and Ed's support, she started support group meetings for cancer patients. They were married until Virginia's death in 1980 from cancer. After her death, Vought matched donations in Virginia's memory to found the Virginia R. Cvetko Patient Education Center in the Baylor Sammons Cancer Center at Dallas. The Cvetko Center helps patients and their loved ones understand and manage the physical, emotional and spiritual challenges of cancer.
In 1987 Ed married Delia Wilkerson Thelen. It was a second marriage for both of them and they shared many common interests. They traveled extensively including Europe, New Zealand and Africa. Sylvia Money
1944~2016 Silvia Mistrot Money, 72, passed away on April 22, 2016, at Plano Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by her husband, daughters, and family, following a four-month hospitalization. She was diagnosed with Chronic Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis in late November 2015, but due to a mis-diagnosis her lung disease progressed too rapidly, and she did not respond to treatment.
Silvia was born in Bainbridge, Georgia, the closest hospital to her childhood hometown, Marianna, Georgia to Wilfred and Sybil Mistrot. Silvia and Sam were blessed with two daughters, Stephanie Theresa Money, 44 and Nicole Elizabeth Taquino, 40. Silvia was survived by her three grandchildren, Katarina Nicole Lees, 8, Christopher Cade Taquino, 6, and Madeline Sofia Taquino, 3, son-in-law Corky Taquino, sister Cathy Pool and brother Ken Mistrot. Silvia was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Gerard Deheppe and Randy Mistrot.
Silvia attended beauty school at age 16, to avoid "having to pick cotton." After high school, she went to Michigan for a short time, moved to New Orleans and lived in the French Quarter where she earned the nickname "Wild Sil." She moved to Dallas, and met Sam, an U.S. Army Soldier on weekend pass. She married Samuel Louis Money on June 27, 1970, at Holy Trinity in Dallas, Texas.
They relocated to Houston, where she worked for EXXON Oil, moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia where she worked as an instructor for State of Georgia College. Next for the family was Edmond, Oklahoma where she worked for Sun Oil and then with her husband and daughter at Foley's department store. They returned home to Dallas in 1992, where Silvia then worked at Plano Federal Washington Mortgage until her retirement. She spent her retirement in every grandmother's dream, taking care of her two grandchildren, Cade and Madeline Taquino.
Silvia spent her life creating the most caring, happy and healthy environment for her family. Working a full-time job and raising her children, she would always come home, cook the family dinner and spend time with her children. A cosmetologist by trade, she gave countless perms to her daughters, haircuts to her daughter's friends, her friends and family. Her enduring passion was reading, and from a young child her mother would say she always had "her head stuck in a book." Later in life, she began painting like her mother, and was extremely gifted in this art. She not only made good friends in her art classes, but this allowed her true passion to emerge, and she produced many truly beautiful paintings that will be treasured by her family.
In late 2014, Silvia's oldest daughter moved back to Texas, and the last year and a half of Silvia's life was spent with family, grandchildren, the celebration of holidays together and family moments. Her sickness brought her sister, Cathy, to Dallas several times and while a sad time, allowed new bonds to form with her nieces and their children. So many friends and family came to share this difficult time with Silvia and her family - it was a true blessing during this horrific time.
To celebrate Silvia Mistrot Money's life, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 6, 2016 at
10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas 75023 with a rosary one hour prior to the mass at 9:30 a.m.

MIchael Ray Moreno
February 26, 1953 ~ March 27, 2016 Major Michael Ray Moreno, 63 years-old, of Plano, Texas, passed away after courageously battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for 6 years. Throughout his journey, his wife of 40 years, Peggy Moreno, three children, Jeffrey, Julie and Jennifer, and many other amazing family and friends, supported and cheered him on. He never complained about his illness and always had a positive outlook on life. Michael’s positive attitude was highly contagious to those around him.
He was born on February 26, 1953, to Lorenza “Lottie” and Mike Moreno, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a proud, big brother to Sylvia and Richard. Michael graduated from Broken Arrow High School, Class of 1971, and then went on to be a first generation college graduate of Oklahoma State University in 1976. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. On a very hot day, August 9, 1975, he married his beautiful wife Peggy. They were married at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. They proudly raised three children, Jeffrey, Julie, and Jennifer, and modelled to them what true love is. After graduating from college, he was hired by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, which later merged with AT&T where he worked for 40 years. He enjoyed every person he met at work and built great friendships. He passed his strong work ethic trait on to his loving wife and three children.
While in college at Oklahoma State University, he participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corp and continued his patriotic duty for 20 years after college. In 1996, Michael was honorably discharged from the United Stated Air Force Reserves as a Major. After he retired from the Air Force, he continued to show his patriotic love for his country. On holidays, he always put out his American flag to share his pride with others. Michael’s father also served honorably for the United State Air Force.
Throughout the years, Michael was a soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball coach to teams’ his children were part of. One of his most memorable times was when he and Peggy were part of the Vines High School and Plano Senior High band booster programs. He would proudly wear his Wildcat Band shirts and caps to every game, and he never missed a performance. He was a chaperone for games, events, and band trips with his wife. He also did a lot of behind the scenes work for the band organization. After his three children graduated, he continued to attend home and away football games for the Wildcats with The Friday Night Group. Every Friday, Michael would enjoy a fun meal with his wife and The Friday Night Group. Michael enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, cheering on the Oklahoma State Cowboy sports teams, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and many other sports teams. He always looked forward to Sunday afternoons to watch NFL football in his recliner.
Michael was a friend to everyone and always found the good in any person or situation. He was a warrior who went into the battle with cancer with full armor and was ready to fight. He fought this nasty disease and beat it once, and then it tried to come back again. It came back, but he did not leave us without a good fight.
A big thank you to those who cared for Michael during his cancer journey; Dr. Charles Connor of Texas Oncology-Plano East, Dr. Brian Berryman of Texas-Oncology-Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center-Blood and Marrow Transplant, and all the amazing doctors and nurses at Medical Center of Plano, especially those in the Critical Care Unit.
Michael is preceded in death by his beloved parents; Lorenza and Mike Moreno. Survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Peggy of Plano, children Jeffrey of Houston, Texas, Julie, and Jennifer of Plano; sister, Sylvia Gerlach and husband, Mark of Centennial, CO, their children Melissa, Brian, and Andrew; brother Richard Moreno and wife Nancy of Collinsville, OK, their children Alex and Austin McSpadden; brother-in-law Don Ellington and wife Teresa, their children Kayla, Karol, Kathy, six great-nephews, and numerous extended family.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway Plano, Texas 75023. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 31, 2016, also at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with a reception to follow in the Parrish Hall. Memorial contributions can be made to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma society in memory of Michael Moreno at https://www.lls.org.
“When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” -Stuart Scott, ESPN sports anchor Deborah K Berlin Thelen
February 18th, 1956 ~ March 8th, 2016
Deborah Kay Berlin Thelen was born on February 18, 1956 in Lansing, Michigan to parents Patricia Louise and Lawrence Charles Berlin. She was a sister to David Berlin and Denise (Berlin) Ilieff. Deborah was always a protector of the people close to her. At a young age, Deborah’s father passed away, forcing her mother to work long hours to support the three children. Deborah always stood up to protect Denise and David acting as a mother figure at times. Deborah, David, and Denise enjoyed golfing, tennis, bowling, and roller skating together. She had an immense love for the arts, including her love of painting and ballet.
Deborah and her husband, William (Bill) Marvin Thelen met during Bill’s senior year at Michigan State University. She was extremely supportive of Bill while he attended Michigan State and after his graduation. Bill moved to Texas in search of better opportunities, and Deborah remained in Lansing, Michigan. Bill and Deborah continued to communicate while Bill was in Texas which tested their relationship, but Bill and Deborah realized they did not want to be without each other. Six months later, Deborah took a leap of faith and boarded the airplane with an African violet on her lap that was given to her by Bill. While in Texas, their love for each other continued to grow. One day Bill proposed to Deborah at the top of Reunion Tower in the restaurant that revolved and overlooked Dallas, Texas. This place symbolized their future life in Dallas, Texas.
Bill and Deborah were married on July 2, 1983 at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. Prior to starting their family, they travelled to Hawaii, New York City, Puerto Rico, Colorado, and San Francisco, enjoying each other’s company. After purchasing their first home in Carrollton, Texas, they started a family. Nicholle Lindsey Thelen was born on July, 5 1989, and William Ryan Thelen II was born on August 29, 1993. In order to raise her two children, Deborah sacrificed her career to stay at home as a full time mother. She was a selfless mother, never asking for anything, and was always concerned about the well-being of her family. She extolled her children and raised them to value education and exude confidence. She always taught them to honor their word, and she stressed the importance of responsibilities. Deborah was never afraid to laugh and play with Nicholle and Ryan, even crawling on her knees just to entertain them. She always put her family before herself, doing whatever she could to make her family feel loved and happy. She would gently wake up her children in morning with a kiss, write notes in their lunches that she prepared, and send messages every day to tell them how much she loved them. To give her children better opportunities, she moved her family to Plano, Texas, in 1994, allowing them to enroll in a reputable school district. Always making sure her children excelled in life, she encouraged them to explore different interests and supported the pursuits they chose.
Deborah was very artistic and enjoyed crafts. She used her creativity to assist Nicholle and Ryan with school projects. She encouraged faith and spread the message of the Lord through her selfless actions and love. She never valued herself over others. She genuinely cared about everyone and not just those close to her. She loved all and treated others as if they were part of her family. By her doing this, she created an even bigger family not bound by blood but love. Deborah will always be remembered for spirit. She lived a life filled with laughter and joy. Through her presence and impact on the lives of others, she will continue to live.
No words here can express her exceptional role as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to those she love. Husband William Marvin Thelen, daughter Nicholle Lindsey Thelen and her fiancé David Bechtel, son William Ryan Thelen II, step-father Larry Knuth, brother David Berlin, sister Denise Ilieff and her husband Andrew, brothers in law Paul Thelen and his wife Ann, Luke Thelen and his wife Jane, Lawrence Thelen and his wife Ellen, Phillip Thelen, Stanley Thelen and his wife Patricia, Dennis Thelen and his wife Dianna and sister in law Denise Cushion. Joshua David Allen
October 23, 2001-February 20, 2016 Joshua David Allen was born October 23, 2001 in Plano, TX and passed away on February 20, 2016, at the age of 14, after a courageous 2-1/2 year battle with a rare form of childhood cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma. Joshua was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend who wanted to be remembered, most of all, for loving everyone. Up until the month before his passing, Joshua attended 8th grade at Carpenter Middle School, where he excelled both academically and socially. Joshua was a Cub Scout throughout elementary school and moved on to Boy Scouts at the end of 5th grade, attaining the rank of First Class Scout. Joshua had recently developed an interest in theater, participating in the school play in November and planning to try out for the lead in the spring production. Joshua loved to go camping, ride his bike, watch movies, and play video games, but his greatest passion was music. He loved to listen to the radio and sing along with his favorite songs, and he played both the piano and the bassoon. He was active in both his school and church choirs, singing at the 8:15 Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano every Sunday morning. Joshua also served as a childhood cancer advocate, promoting the need for increased funding for pediatric cancer research, and was the face of a community blood drive in December that brought in 112 units of blood in seven hours.
Most important of all, however, is the way that Joshua lived his life during the short 14 years he spent with us. Joshua was always a kind, loving, compassionate, and giving child, with an amazing passion for life and a faith that surpassed that of many much older than him. Throughout his cancer journey, Joshua remained positive and happy. The strength and grace with which he tackled his disease were an inspiration to all who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt by many. Joshua was a guest on a radio show in November at which he told his story and, when asked what he would say to another child in his situation, he answered, “Live it like it’s your last day. Try to be the best person you can be.” Joshua lived that philosophy every day of his life and, as a result, will leave a lasting legacy.
Joshua is survived by his parents, Todd & Christine Allen, his brother Gabriel and sister Kathryn, grandparents, William & Darleen Sherman and David & Terri Allen, aunts and uncles, Janel & Philip Delfeld, Rebecca & Thomas Price, and Martin Sherman, and cousins, Jacob & Zachary Price and Corey & Madelyn Delfeld, as well as a large and loving extended family and many wonderful friends.
Visitation will be Friday, February 26th, 6:00-8:00 pm in room 130 of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Faith Formation Center, located at 3100 W. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 27th at 1:00 pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, located at 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano, with a reception to follow. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rowlett, TX.

Michael Braxton
July 24, 1959 ~ January 2016 Michael was born the third son to Walter and Margaret Braxton on July 24, 1959, in Dallas, Texas, and always there for them was his mother Louise Leask. He was definitely a man proud of his origination and would hold his head higher and puff up his chest proudly when that fact was acknowledged. He comes from a large loving family and family is always what made him happiest. As a child, he adored his big brother Tim and would follow him everywhere and emulate his every action. He was known as the local snake hunter and held a fascination with moths. He loved sports and spent some time on the track field, played baseball and football. The family tells of Michael’s unique ability to predict upcoming events. He was very nonchalant about this ability. Perhaps this was a gift inherited through the Native American heritage he so cherished. He considered himself a son of Texas with a little Native American twist.
Upon graduation from high school he spent some time riding broncos in the rodeo ring. Now, if that wasn’t a circus enough, he decided to join the Air Force in 1980. He became a jet engine mechanic on the F4E Phantom fighter and was stationed in Ramstein AB, Germany, where he met the love of his life, Kathy Sieve from South Dakota. They were married in 1982 in Brandon, S.D. and were then stationed at Norton AFB in California to complete his enlistment through 1984. Michael and Kathy’s path then took them to Maryland where big brother Walt took him under his wing to teach him how to be successful in the Sales world. A year of internship gave him the courage to pursue this career to Dallas, Texas. This choice brought him back home near family and friends and a lifelong career in Copier Sales. This choice was perfect for him, as he loved people and socializing was a large part of what made him tick. He was the “Bestest BBQ’er” in Texas” and loved to share his grilling masterpieces. He loved movies and hated commercials. He saw each day as an adventure and a gamble.
Michael and Kathy were blessed with their son, Brandon Michael, on July 5, 1987 who became the center of their lives. They gained a lovely daughter-in-law, Holly, in 2010 and have been further blessed with their beautiful grandchildren, Dax and Zia, who have brought laughter and pure pleasure into their lives. They recently celebrated the 33rd Anniversary of their marriage in December, 2015. He will truly be missed by his wife Kathy; son Bandon Braxton and his wife Holly; grandchildren Dax and Zia Braxton; mother Louise Braxton; brother Robert Braxton; sisters Joan Walker and her husband Darrell, Lisa Smith and her husband David, Amy Steen and her husband James; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Michael is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Margaret O’Conner Braxton and his brothers Walter Braxton, Jr. and Timothy Braxton.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway Plano, Texas 75023, on

Gliceria "Zeny" Buzon
December 21, 1938 ~ January 5, 2016 Gliceria (Zeny) Buzon joined the Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in Plano, Texas. She was born 7th in a family of eight on December 21, 1938 to Mariano and Ana Leyba in the province of Indang, Cavite in the Philippines where she stayed until she moved to Davao City in southern Philippines to study. There she met her husband, Rodrigo Buzon (Deceased) and grew a family of five children to this beautiful legacy of a family tree that survives her: Vidian Valera, her husband Tony, and children Diane, Aldrich, and Adrian; Metsue Leonardo, her husband Vic, and son Matthew; Vellie King, and her husband Billy; Ronnie James Buzon, his wife Anna, and children Jessica, Aaron, Rodney, and Arjean; and Sherill Montemayor, her husband Mike, and children Miko and Joshua.
Zeny earned her Bachelors Degree in Education in the University of Mindanao, and she continued to pursue learning in her later years as she earned a Certified Nursing Assistant designation. She was a go-getter and had an entrepreneurial spirit that made her successful as a businesswoman and anything she put her mind to pursue. She and her husband, Ruding, owned and operated several businesses through the years from a printing press to grocery stores. Zeny was full of energy and was not afraid to reach for the next rung to keep improving her and her family’s situation. Because she believed in us and expected nothing but the best from us, she motivated us to do and be our best. She was very loyal and generous to her family and her friends and her integrity cannot be questioned.
One of her cherished accomplishments was the completion of seven years of study to be recognized as a Third Order of Preachers (T.O.P.) of Saint Dominic and become part of their apostolic mission of service to God and neighbor in the Church through prayer, study, and preaching. This earned her the privilege of being buried in a nun’s habit, which was a dream of hers. She said if she did not marry, she would have been a nun.
Bar none at the top of Zeny’s passions were her love for God and her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, passions that she carried out in practice. Following God’s leading, she founded the chapel, “Grotto sa Antipolo” with her husband over 30 years ago. With God’s blessing, it continues to service the community with anticipated Sunday masses held on Saturday evenings. The seed they planted started with setting up a Lourdes grotto in her home that soon became a place where Zeny taught kids how to pray the rosary. Not long after, adults joined in to pray the rosary and it grew from there. To this day the highlight is the celebration of “Simbang Gabi” or dawn novena masses for nine days leading to Christmas that is heavily attended, rain or shine. The chapel remained to be a source of joy for her to which she longed to go home to and deeply committed to keep as part of her and her husband’s legacy.
We would like to thank each and every person who has cared for and supported Zeny and who has reached out to us with love and concern. It has touched our hearts to see so many express their condolences and hear how Zeny has touched their lives with her grace and charm and most of all her service to the Lord.
