Marriage Preparation GuidelinesBefore a wedding is scheduled at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the following steps must be completed:
STEP 1: SUBMIT INITIAL WEDDING INQUIRY FORM
Please download, print, and complete the attached Wedding Inquiry Questionnaire. Then email it to Susan Ozowski, Ministry Assistant to the Priests, at [email protected].You may also drop it off in person at our Parish Office, located at 2701 Piedra Drive, Plano, TX 75023, during regular business hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am–12:00 pm and 1:00 pm–5:00 pm (excluding holidays).STEP 2: Approval from the Pastor
If you are not currently registered parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, you must meet and receive approval from our pastor. Fr. Bradley meets with all couples wishing to marry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton before a wedding date can be reserved on our church calendar.
To schedule a meeting, please contact the Ministry Assistant to the Priests, Susan Ozowski, at [email protected] or by calling 972-398-5418Once you've been in touch, you will be set up for a FOCCUS assessment, an online tool used throughout the Diocese of Dallas to begin marriage-preparation discussions. Please complete this assessment before meeting with our pastor.STEP 3: COMPLETE Information & Forms
Newly Issued Copy of Baptismal CertificateBaptized Catholics must obtain newly issued baptismal certificates (dated within the last six months) from the Church where they were baptized. Your original certificate that was issued shortly after your baptism will not work for the purpose of getting married. Contact the parish where you were baptized and request a recent certificate with notations.- For those baptized Christians who are not Catholic, only some proof of baptism is necessary. A certificate from your Church of baptism (even the one issued at the time of baptism), or a letter from one of your parents or a witness to the baptism, is acceptable proof of baptism.
- Non-baptized persons do not need any proof of baptism or religious status.
Affidavit of Free StatusThe Affidavit of Free Status is a form that asks one of the parents or another relative/party who has known you since adolescence to be a witness to the fact that you are free to marry. Both the bride and groom are required to submit this form.Decree of NullityIf one or both of you have been married before, you will need to supply a Decree of Nullity, indicating an annulment of the previous marriage.NEXT STEPS:
Prepare for the Rite of MarriageAfter you visit with Fr. Bradley, you will receive the United in Christ booklet to help you choose readings and prayers for the Rite of Marriage, and reflect on your marriage as you prepare for your wedding day. You will also receive a packet of information to guide you through planning your ceremony, including a checklist of everything the Church requires and the order in which it should be completed.Wedding Ceremony PanningYou will meet with our parish Wedding Coordinator to plan the details of your ceremony: review the readings and prayers you've selected, handle the rehearsal, and guide you through the use of our facilities. You will also meet with the Director of Music Ministry to plan the music during your ceremony. Both are independent contractors and have fees that you’ll need to discuss with them individually.
