e ySponsor Couples play a vital role in helping engaged couples prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage. The Diocese of Dallas uses the Sponsor Couple Program as one of its approved marriage-preparation options. If you feel called to this ministry, we would love to speak with you! Please get in touch with Susan Ozowski at 972-596-5518 or by email at [email protected].
After meeting with our Pastor, Fr. Bruce Bradley, prospective Sponsor Couples receive training on the diocesan requirements and on how to guide engaged couples through the FOCCUS assessment.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
When an engaged couple begins marriage preparation, they will be guided through the initial steps for Marriage Preparation at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. They will be asked to complete the FOCCUS online assessment. Once the results are in, each will be assigned a Sponsor Couple to accompany them through the rest of the marriage preparation process.
As a Sponsor Couple, you will learn to interpret the FOCCUS assessment and facilitate open, healthy communication between the engaged couple. Here at Seton, we prepare about 60 couples each year. Some marry here; others marry in different cities, states, or even countries. YOUR ROLE AS A SPONSOR COUPLE
Sponsor Couples choose how many engaged couples they wish to work with each year. Some are always available; others host one or two couples annually. Meetings take place in your home over 4–5 sessions, each lasting 2 to 2½ hours. Engaged couples complete “homework” between sessions, which you review together at the next meeting. You and the couple set the meeting schedule.
Serving as a Sponsor Couple is a meaningful way to strengthen the Church, guide engaged couples, and witness to the beauty of Christian marriage. This ministry upholds the sacredness of marriage and helps couples grow in their understanding of it through guided conversations and supportive mentorship as they take this major life step.
WHO CAN SERVE AS A SPONSOR COUPLE
Married at least five years in a valid, Catholic marriage.
Only one spouse must be Catholic. Mixed-faith marriages are welcome.
